When to go on a Tanzania safari and beach honeymoon?
Tanzania is located in the tropics, so you can expect temperatures of 25 degrees C + throughout the year. It is possible to visit all year round, but the best time for the weather is technically from July – September when the weather is dry and the wildlife is prominent. The only time of year we would not recommend if you are looking at beach time on your honeymoon is in April and May, when Tanzania experiences its main rainy season… Not very good for an Indian Ocean honeymoon!
However, if you are just looking at safari, are adventurous, and on a tight budget, then the rainy season can be extraordinary. Lots of new life roam the parks, the bushes are luscious green, and it is a beautiful time to be in Tanzania… And the prices of amazing lodges are seriously slashed. However, there is a reason the prices are less – the wildlife is more dispersed, so less easy to spot, it is raining, and chances of getting stuck in the mud are increased! But for some, Tanzania’s green season is an adventure like no other.
Our preferred time of year is in the shoulder season months, or October and June. Here, you get reduced rates from high season as well as some fantastic special offers. In some cases, you can get the same high-season experience a few days into shoulder season and pay half the price! The wildlife is fantastic in these months, and the parks are quieter as it is just outside school holidays.
Each time of year has pros and cons for each location, so the best option is to contact us and chat with one of our Tanzania experts.
Why is Tanzania the best honeymoon destination?
Tanzania offers some of the best game viewing, along with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Here you can seamlessly combine an authentic, wild safari with a deserted Indian Ocean beach holiday… A perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, and a fantastic start to married life in our opinion.
Tanzania has some seriously good lodges at great prices for an African honeymoon; however, for those who want to splash out for the last word in luxury, there are also a selection of exceptional high end lodges for a world class Tanzania honeymoon…
Tanzania is the best place to see the Great Migration, when 1.5m wildebeest move en masse in search of green pastures following the rains. To witness it together as newlyweds is a truly unforgettable experience.
Tanzania is well-developed in terms of infrastructure and the guest experience. Why not add in a hot air balloon trip, a night fly camping in the bush or an alfresco dinner in the middle of the Serengeti?
Luxury vs Adventure for your Tanzania Honeymoon?
Tanzania has plenty of options for all types of travellers, and your trip can be as luxurious or hard-core rustic and adventurous as you like. Adrenaline-seeking adventurers can summit Africa’s tallest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, or perhaps sleep out under the stars on a dry river bed in Ruaha National Park as part of a 7-night walking safari. For the hedonists and sybarites, Tanzania has some of the finest lodges in Africa in some of the most remote and truly wild locations. Ask us about the exclusive Grumeti Reserve attached to the Serengeti, and which can be combined with Mnemba Island for the ultimate exclusive honeymoon fit for a movie star.
Tanzania Honeymoon Vs Kenya Honeymoon
Tanzania and Kenya are both great for honeymoons as they offer a range of different safari areas, styles of accommodation and activities. We tend to lean towards Tanzania for honeymoons as the distances, especially in Southern Tanzania, are much shorter which really helps to keep travel time and costs down. In addition, the best beaches on the Kenyan Coast are often very busy – whereas the Tanzania coast and its network of islands offer a much wider range of accommodation options as well as some quieter spots. Tanzania really offers everything that honeymooners could want, whether you are an adventurous, adrenaline-seeking, snorkelling, diving, climbing dynamic duo, or more of a chill-by-the-pool-with-a-G&T kind of couple!
